Love inspires the best of friendships, ideas and creative legacies. It was love when Caroline Scheufele, Co-President and Creative Director of Chopard redesigned the Palme d’Or in 1998 after a meeting with then Cannes Film Festival President, Pierre Viot. What followed was the inception of years-long collaboration between the jewellery Maison and Cannes Festival. In this coalescence of design, art and mastery, the Palme d’Or witnessed iterations of glory on several occasions. Be it the ethically sourced diamonds in its leaflets in 2014 or the memorable win by Julia Ducournau, for her second feature film, Titane last year.

The 75th Anniversary of the prestigious Film Festival this year coincides with the 25th anniversary of Chopard’s venture as a partner. On this remarkable occasion, Scheufele took the opportunity to bestow a stylistic tribute and redesign the Palme, yet again, adding diamonds studded in two of the tiny leaflets of the Palme D’Or.

The Chopard atelier has produced this special Palme d’Or set with diamonds poised on a pink quartz. This diamond jubilee set is not only a unique ode to the prestigious Festival but also a testament to Chopard’s admiration and love for cinema. It contains within its tiny leaf the 75 diamonds in tribute to the festival and 25 more cementing Chopard’s 25th participation as a partner.

Sketch of the Palme d'Or 2022

Designed by the custodians of fine jewellery, the Palme d’Or 2022 is a work of meticulous artistry. It deploys an ethical, hand crafted approach. Marked by the fineness of the “lost wax investment casting” technique, the Fairmined-certified 18-carat yellow gold Palme deftly marries craftsmanship with urban design. A special rose quartz block–drilled by a diamond milling cutter- supports the Palme as a base. It symbolises love and is inspired by mythological tropes. It is believed that this powdery pink and delicately veined gemstones was designed by Aphrodite, the Goddess of love. Likewise, Quartz from the Greek word krustallos meaning "ice", is said to be the ice of the gods.

The 2022 Palme d'Or marks another in a long line of successful collaborations between the French film festival and jewellery maison.
