Two new ABC series made their mark last television season, establishing themselves as household names with audiences eager to tune back into their stories this year.
The first, Abbott Elementary, is nominated for 7 Emmys and will slot into the fall line-up in a comedy block set to charm viewers. The second, The Wonder Years, a reboot of the beloved series from the ’80s, overcame the odds and won reboot fatigued TV lovers over. This show, however, has been bumped to the midseason for its sophomore run.
When the decision was made ABC Entertainment President Craig Erwich had the following to say about why season 2 has been held:
The Wonder Years is a show we are extraordinarily proud of, reaction from the fans and the critics has been overwhelming. The show premiered extremely strongly, it’s one of the highest rated premieres we have had in the past few years. The midseason order will allow us to develop a plan to relaunch it with a lot of care and attention.
This makes us wonder if they have something big planned for the show’s second season. How long will we be waiting? Here’s what we know!
The Wonder Years season 3 doesn’t have a premiere date yet. As mentioned above, it’s been held for the midseason. Typically, that means new episodes will start airing sometime between January and March of a television season. So we won’t be returned to the Williams’ family until 2023.
It looks like filming is set to be underway. Showrunner Saladin K. Patterson posted a pick of his parking space on his Instagram. The show is filmed in Atlanta and casting notices for extras have gone out as well. With production kicking off in September, this means we could see a January or February premiere for season 2. We’ll keep you posted!
